A Korean-American doctor has been included in the Chicago Sun-Times list of ¡°50 People Who Make Chicago a Better Place.¡± No Kap-joon is recognized for his dedication to the city¡¯s Korean community.
The Sun-Times said, ¡°No¡¯s medical practice is right in the heart of Chicago¡¯s Korean-American community. Some grateful patients say he is the heart of the community.¡±
According to the daily, he has run the annual Korean-American Health Fair, designed to help Koreans without insurance or those who cannot afford high medical costs although they may be insured. He also works personally to help those in need, it reported.
Helen Park, who has worked for him for 17 years, was quoted as saying that she ¡°accidentally found out that the doctor has been slipping a needy patient the money for co-payments.¡±
Even nurses did not know this, Park said. No has additionally provided various services to the Korean community -- aiding Korean adoptees to visit their motherland is just one of them.
